Winners of the last Women TechEU Open Call

Following the closure of the 4th Women TechEU’s project Open Call, the EU-funded scheme received a record breaking 1107 applications from 43 eligible countries, the highest number of submissions to date, demonstrating the growing demand for support among women-led deep tech start-ups across Europe. 

After a thorough evaluation process 40 winners were selected, representing 20 countries, including 8 from widening countries, the highest number recorded in this iteration of the programme.

Geographic Diversity of Winners 

The latest selection round showcases start-ups from across a broad range of countries. France led with 7 winning start-ups, followed by the United Kingdom with 5, Spain with 4, Germany and Sweden with 3, Denmark, Netherlands and Romania with 2 each. A winner was selected from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Serbia. This broad geographical reach reflects the project's dedication to promoting inclusivity and empowering women innovators from diverse ecosystems, particularly within widening countries.

Sectoral Representation 

Start-ups from a broad spectrum of sectors participated in the call. A majority of the selected winners – 47.5% – belonged to the "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, including Big Data" category, on data-driven innovation across sectors such as manufacturing, and digital services. "Biotechnology, Life Sciences and Agritech" followed at 35.0%, while 17.5% of the winners were involved in "Sustainable Energy, Clean Technologies and Greentech." Other notable sectors included "Advanced Materials" (15.0%) and "Advanced Manufacturing" (7.5%). Sectors like "Advanced Computing /Quantum Computing" (5.0%), "Cybersecurity and Data Protection" (2.5%), “Electronics and Photonics” (2.5%), “Internet of Things, W3C, Semantic Web” (2.5%) and "Robotics" (2.5%).

DataHub 

The Women TechEU DataHub has been updated to include detailed profiles of the 4th call winners. These startups represent a diverse range of deep tech innovations, offering insights into their technologies. 

The platform provides an accessible way to explore the backgrounds of each selected start-up, helping increase visibility and encourage connections across the deep tech ecosystem.

What’s next?

Following the conclusion of the 4th and final call, this iteration of the Women TechEU project has officially come to a close. No further calls will be launched under the current programme.

However, Women TechEU will continue under a new project expected to begin early next year, ensuring the ongoing support and visibility of women-led deep-tech start-ups across Europe. More details will be shared as they become available, including updates on the final event.
